Gault&Millau review

Young and talented – that’s how people describe Paweł Stawicki, not only in Pomerania. Having gained experience in London’s The Greenhouse and Norwegian Maaemo, he settled in Gdańsk. At Mercato, Stawicki serves dishes based on regional products, giving them a modern form and caring for appealing presentation – his kitchen is the birthplace of real works of art! He is not a lone wolf and always emphasises the strength of his team. The restaurant is located on the ground floor of the Hilton Hotel, and its windows overlook the Motława and Ołowianka rivers. The interior provides a soothing experience with its combination of greys and natural wood. Black-and-white wall graphics communicate the four pillars of the restaurant’s cuisine. There are: ancient fava bean seeds, Baltic salmon, Żuławy sheep and duck. All these products are found on the plates in various interpretations. The menu is based on seasonal and local ingredients sourced according to the ‘farm-to-table’ principle from the neighbouring areas within a 100 km radius from Gdańsk. The chef mixes them with selected colonial products, thus alluding to the history of the city. In ancient times, the Via Mercatorum trade route from the north to the south of Poland led through it, so it is clear that the tables of the rich residents of Gdańsk have for centuries carried not only products from the immediate vicinity. The dishes that are now served on Mercato’s tables show off both the city’s local character and its history. You’ll be able to fully appreciate it by ordering a tasting menu. PSST! The right wine pairing will be provided by a sommelier who can surprise you with some real gems, to name just a 40-year-old port wine.

It is a bit hidden, but not far from the popular walking routes of Gdansk’s Main City. Fino is a gem that no self-respecting gourmet can afford to miss. Once you enter its cosy interior with colourful armchairs, you are likely to experience some genuine culinary delights. The menu is not needlessly elaborate and the dishes it offers are all very intriguing, which makes deciding on a meal that much harder! Their fresh approach to traditional Polish ingredients, knowledge of global cooking trends and amazingly talented chef, all contribute to end products, with their flavour and beauty leaving guests in awe. PSST! Be sure to try their phenomenal eco-friendly pickle juices made by Gdańsk’s Zakwasownia.

When you think of Italy, you see fantastic food, exquisite wine and elegant design. The Fellini restaurant located by the Motława river in Gdańsk will evoke exactly these memories. Natural wood and comfortable fuchsia-coloured seats make this bright interior cosy. You will be charmed by the beautiful view of the river and the interesting wine list, but most of all by the menu, which offers plenty of classic dishes with fish, seafood and meats. The kitchen uses the best products imported from Italy. Fellini will make a great venue for an elegant dinner or a romantic date. It’s worth coming here often, as apart from the fixed menu, the guests may also order dishes from the menu written on the board – chefs’ recommendations. PSST! We recommend checking out the dish of the day, as you can try some interesting off-menu picks.

Eliksir’s stylishly decorated clubhouse-like interior holds a great restaurant with a talented chef at the helm, and an excellent cocktail bar. The restaurant’s allure lies in it’s original and amazingly successful rendition of classic cuisine. The dishes on their tasting menu do not come with the usual wine pairings, instead they’re paired with cocktails mixed by their creative bartenders. They mix originals and classics alike, with a spritzer selection to boot. Be sure to stop by at their well-stocked bar – among its multitude of labels you’ll find best whiskeys and gins from around the world, champagnes and an impressive selection of vodkas. PSST! Eliksir also has a separate cigar menu. You can enjoy them in their cigar room.
